Kelvin
A temperature scale based on a zero point at which atoms in solids stop vibrating. Zero Kelvin corresponds to -273 deg Centigrade (Celsius).
Zero K is absolute zero; ice melts at 273 K (0° C, 32° F); water boils at 373 K ( 100° C, 212° F).
(K) The
SI base unit of temperature, defined by assigning 273.16 K to the temperature at which steam, ice, and water are at equilibrium (called the triple point of water). The freezing point of water is 273.15 K.
Abbreviated K. A unit of absolute temperature. Zero degrees Celsius is equal to 273.16 Kelvin.
