A type of electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength, shorter than that of visible light. It is defined to be within the range of 10 to 400 nanometres. Electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than 10 nanometres is known as X-rays or gamma rays.
Electromagnetic radiation at wavelengths shorter than the violet end of visible light; the atmosphere of the Earth effectively blocks the transmission of most ultraviolet light.
Electromagnetic radiation with wavelength longer than that of x-rays but shorter than that of visible light . Ultraviolet light can break some chemical bonds and cause cell damage.
